Excitement is building as the Delta State Preseason Cup 2024 kicks off soon, with organizers unveiling participating teams and fixtures. Set to take place across four action-packed days, the tournament will feature eight prominent football clubs competing to showcase their talent and gear up for their respective forthcoming competitive season.
The 2024 Asaba Bet9ja Cup Champions, Ughelli Rovers Football Club is also making its highly anticipated debut, competing in Group B alongside strong regional teams — Benin Warriors FC (Edo), Great Avengers FC (Effurun), and Double Excel FC (Warri).
Hosted at the Ogor Technical College in Otogor-Ughelli, this tourney is expected to draw local fans and showcase top talent from the grassroots football scenery.
The stage is up for an exciting game of football as all eight participants aim to outshine each other in the championship. Fans can expect an action-packed weekend on the turf of Ogor Technical College as each team vies for the trophy.
Kicking off on Friday, November 15, the tournament will continue through Monday, November 18, 2024. The group stages will span the first three days, with teams in each pool fighting for a top-two spot to qualify for the next stage.
These best-performing two teams from each group will advance to semi-finals in the morning of the 18th, and the afternoon will culminate with a high-stakes final to crown this year’s preseason champion.
For the Eguono V’Ovwian boys, participating in this competition presents a valuable opportunity to test their squad dynamics and continually build momentum for the league season ahead. With hometown pride on the line, fans are eagerly awaiting Rovers’ first appearance on the pitch against regional rivals, Benin Warriors, on Friday by 8am.
Meanwhile, business will continue accordingly with back-to-back clashes with Double Excel FC, and Great Avengers FC, at 10am on Saturday and Sunday respectively. In spite of, results from these series of matches would determine their fate in the competition with the hope of challenging for a spot in the knockout phase and possibly for the ultimate prize.
Tournament Director, Mr. Onome Ikrechero Johnbull, expressed optimism about the event, highlighting its role in fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. “The Delta Preseason Cup 2024 is an excellent platform for these clubs to prepare for the upcoming season and for fans to witness thrilling displays of football talent,” he said.
