Match Report: Ughelli Rovers FC 0-1 Isoko United

April 28, 2025.

Ughelli Rovers FC suffered a hard-fought 1-0 loss to rivals Isoko United in the electrifying Derby at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on Sunday, during the New Year Mega Lottery Nationwide League One (NLO) Division One 2025 season.

The match was charged with intensity from the first whistle, as both teams battled for supremacy in this crucial fixture. We held our ground in the first half, with our resolute defense thwarting Isoko United’s high-pressing attacks. Despite our efforts to create openings, the score remained 0-0 at halftime.

The second half saw Isoko United take the lead in the 49th minute when Awo Oghenetega latched onto a well-placed cross and fired a low shot past our captain and goalkeeper, Efe Bartholomew, igniting their supporters.

Stung by the goal, we ramped up our efforts to level the score. Our best opportunity came around the 75th minute, but we couldn’t find the decisive touch, allowing Isoko United to secure the victory.

This defeat, our second consecutive derby loss to Isoko United, leaves us with three points from two matches in the Asaba Centre 1 standings.

Reflecting on the match, our head coach, Ekete Nyerovwo, remained optimistic: “We created chances but couldn’t convert. It’s a tough result to swallow, but we’re not defined by this setback. We’ll analyze our mistakes, regroup, and come back stronger.”

Our focus now shifts to our next challenge against OYC FC on Thursday, May 3rd. Last year, we played out a hard-fought 0-0 draw with OYC in the NLO, but they’ve started this season strongly, winning both of their opening matches.

We’re determined to harness our resilience and put up a fierce fight to get back to winning ways.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our loyal supporters who brought incredible energy to the stadium and continue to stand by us.
