Ughelli Rovers FC President Visits Delta State Government, Discusses Youth Engagement Through Football

The President of Ughelli Rovers Football Club, Oke Umurhohwo paid a courtesy visit to Chief Sunday Onoriode, Director of Protocol to the Delta State Governor, at Government House, Asaba on Wednesday.

The meeting, which took place on July 24, 2024, focused on the state government’s commitment to supporting local football clubs and using sports as a tool for youth development and talent identification.

Ughelli Rovers, an NLO side currently preparing for their second season in Nigerian Division 3, have been making waves in the local football circles. The club is riding high on a five-game winning streak and is set to participate in the upcoming Asaba Super Cup in August.

During the visit, Chief Onoriode emphasized the state government’s recognition of football’s potential to curb youth restiveness.

Umurhohwo expressed gratitude for the government’s interest and outlined the club’s vision. “Ughelli Rovers is not just about winning matches; we’re building a sustainable model for youth development through football,” he said. “With government support, we can expand our scouting network and training facilities.”

The meeting also touched on plans to improve football infrastructure across the state and create pathways for talented young players to access international opportunities.

As Ughelli Rovers gear up for the Asaba Super Cup, all eyes will be on this promising club. Their performance could set the tone for increased government investment in grassroots football across Delta State.
