Ughelli Rovers Head Coach Ekete Leads Ughelli North U-17 to Unity Cup Triumph

Ughelli Rovers Football Club proudly celebrates a landmark achievement in grassroots football development as our Head Coach, Nyerovwo Ekete, guided the Ughelli North Under-17 Football Team to victory in the 2025 Sheriff Oborevwori Under-17 Unity Cup.

The annual competition, which features teams from the eight Delta Central local government areas, commenced in August 2025 and concluded on February 15, 2026. In a tightly contested final against Uvwie, Ughelli North emerged champions after a dramatic penalty shootout, capping off months of disciplined preparation and tactical execution.

The triumph bears the technical imprint of Coach Ekete, whose structure, organization, and emphasis on player discipline were evident throughout the tournament. From the group stages to the final, the team displayed resilience, tactical awareness, and composure under pressure.

Speaking after the victory, Coach Ekete attributed the success to preparation and belief.
“This victory is a result of discipline, hard work, and trust in the process. These young players committed themselves to learning and improving every day. I am proud of their character, especially in the final where mental strength was crucial. This is what proper grassroots development should look like.”

At Ughelli Rovers, Coach Ekete remains a central pillar of our technical vision. His ability to nurture young talents, build structured teams, and prepare players for competitive environments continues to reinforce the club’s long-term commitment to excellence.

The victorious team was received by the Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Barr. Jaro Movudu Egbo, KSC, who commended both players and technical staff for their outstanding performance.

The delegation was led by the Supervisor for Education, Sports and Community Development, Hon. Egbinine Daniel Enomate, alongside the coaching crew and players.
Chairman Egbo pledged financial support towards the team’s continued training and development, reaffirming the council’s commitment to youth empowerment through sports.

Ughelli Rovers President, Hon. Oke Umurhohwo, described the achievement as a reflection of the club’s technical strength and developmental philosophy.
“Coach Ekete’s success with the Ughelli North U-17 team reflects the standards we uphold at Ughelli Rovers. We believe in structure, preparation, and long-term player development. When you invest in coaching quality and discipline, results will follow. This victory is not just about a trophy, it is about building a culture of excellence in Ughelli.”

As Ughelli Rovers prepares for the new season, this achievement further strengthens confidence in the technical leadership guiding the club’s direction.

We congratulate Coach Ekete and the Ughelli North Under-17 champions for making the community proud and for demonstrating the power of structured grassroots football development.
