The curtain-raiser for the Bet9ja Asaba Supercup was a proper showdown as the rampant Ughelli Rovers FC brought carnage on their opponents.
The game started in earnest fashion as both teams tried to peg down possession. The keeper for Ughelli Rovers was called into action early as the city boys tried to find an opener.
The game turned on its head as the highly technical Ughelli Rovers recycled possession with relative ease.
It was a one-sided affair as the midfield show was stolen by the smallest man in the pitch, Marshall Kingsley of Ughelli Rovers who was an absolute metronome and barely misplaced a pass.
A flurry of chances were created by both teams, but they couldn’t bury their chances and the first half ended on a stalemate.
The second half started with urgency as both teams tried to find an opener. The opener came before the hour mark as the domineering Ovwigho Abednego tore past the defense and delivered the ball on a platter of gold for Great Udori to slot home the opener.
The game resumed as the City Boys tried to find an equalizer but every wave of attack thrown at the airtight defense of Ughelli Rovers was repelled.
The Ughelli Rovers defense was well marshalled by Oharisi Happy, who didn’t allow the opponents a sniff at the box.
The final goal came in the 81st minute as a swift counter was buried in the bottom left corner by Great Udori once again after a menacing run by Peter Agberia as the straw that broke the camel’s back.
There was no coming back from that one, as the City Boys didn’t find a way to get back into the game as it was a total dominance from the Ughelli Rovers boys.
The referee blew for full time and it was frenzy for the fans of Ughelli Rovers as they watched their team breeze into the finals.
